Food, glorious food, fanciful, magical food.

On our only trip to Canada’s province of Quebec, my wife, our son, and I started by exploring Montreal. A Frenchman founded the city in 1642. Today, it is the largest city in Quebec, the second largest in Canada, and the tenth largest in North America.

The city is famous for its bilingualism (French and English), cultural heritage, history, architecture, old-world charm, and cuisine.

Speaking of cuisine, hamburgers, pizza, and macaroni and cheese satisfied our teenage son. He competed in an international card tournament each day. While he played, my wife and I wandered the city, saw the sights, and sampled delicious foods.

On a long walk, my wife guided us to Jean-Talon Market. Inside, vendors sold vegetables, fruits, meats, wines, and desserts of all kinds.

One table displayed hundreds of tarts, pies, cakes, and pastries. The photo shows a fraction of its tantalizing desserts.

With delectables and coffees in hand, we meandered to a private table outdoors.

The snack was a delectable slice of a delightful day.

Thank you, Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles, for tempting writers with the August challenge. As always, thanks also to publisher Mary Chang Story Writer and editor Sandi Parsons. Together, they make an effective team spread across three continents.
