Time to Write
June Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Black & White — Freestyle”
My early morning writing session setup.
There’s something so peaceful about writing early in the morning before everyone else wakes up. The tea is fresh, as is my brain. My notebook and pen are ready to go to work.
I was reminded the other day of just how fresh my brain is after a good night’s sleep. We were out for a morning walk and met the sweetest 6-month old pup with her new person. As soon as we walked away, I couldn’t remember the pup’s name. Not that it’s a big deal, but it bugged the heck out of me. I knew it started with an M(Macy? Marcy?) but couldn’t recall until I woke the next day and my first though was Marley. That was it! I could finally stop racking my brain over a random dog’s name, cute as she was.
Writing is similar when characters aren’t cooperating or even talking to me. Sometimes all it takes is a little distance, a refreshing nap, or — even better— a good night’s sleep to wake the muse.
Thanks to the SWPSC team for always inspiring the muse.
