May Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “This is Me”
Unknown lake, comical ducks, and me!
When I first saw our townhome, it hadn’t yet been put on the market. I had inside information from a friend three months before the scheduled “for sale” date.
Despite driving through the neighborhood multiple times over the years, I didn’t realize there was a lake behind the townhome building. Imagine my surprise when I looked out from the back porch and saw water!
But there was another surprise — ducks — ducks like none I’d seen before. Kathy, the owner of the townhome, said:
One morning a couple of weeks ago, a flock of ducks flew in. I’d never seen ducks like them before. I found out they’re Black-Bellied Whistling Ducks. Supposedly they’ve been slowly moving north from Central America. They leave during the day, but always return in the morning. And, boy, do they make a racket!
We would buy the townhome. Not only did I get a new home, I developed a new interest in nature, including ducks and birds. Now, most of my writing is nature-related, and I’ve become a birder, always walking with camera in hand.
