Events in recent weeks have revealed a nation grappling with how to overcome the ills of systemic racism. As we continue to bear witness to the scenes of violence and strife in our communities, we are deeply saddened, and offer our unequivocal solidarity with the cause and its ideals of equality and diversity. However, we know it’s not enough. It’s also incumbent on all of us to get involved in any way we can. Many have taken to the streets to peacefully protest and loudly advocate for change, while others have donated to charitable groups on the front lines of the struggle for equality.

In this painful time where so many of us are looking for ways to participate and contribute to change, one way to show your support for the Black community is by seeking out Black-owned restaurants. At SixPlus, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help our community find and support these Black-owned businesses.

Check out this new app, Eat Okra, to find Black-owned restaurants in cities across the country.

In New York, take a look at this Google Doc supporting Black-owned restaurants, created by Hannah Goldfield of The New Yorker and Rachel Karten of Bon Appétit.

In the DC area, a great list of Black-owned restaurants that are open during Covid-19, compiled by Anela Malik in her blog, Feed the Malik.

In Los Angeles, Kat Hong from The Infatuation put together this fantastic list to support Los Angeles’ Black-owned restaurants.

Kat’s counterparts at The Infatuation gathered this list of Black-owned restaurants in the Bay-area.

Finally, here is another comprehensive nation-wide resource compiled by Rachel W. to support your city’s Black-owned restaurants.

We appreciate the efforts of these individuals in helping build the momentum for change, and hope everyone can get involved in any way they can towards bringing about a better and brighter tomorrow.
