Sixty Second Stories publishes very short fiction that can be read in sixty seconds or less — haiku, short poetry, and microfiction.

This publication is dedicated to short, easy reads.

Anyone can write for Sixty Second Stories. If you’re interested in becoming a writer here, either leave a comment on this post or send a request via this form. Your choice.

Beginning August 2020, I’ll start posting weekly prompts, but they don’t need to be followed in order to submit work to Sixty Second Stories.

Sixty Second Stories publishes haiku, short poetry, and microfiction.

There used to be a lengthy list of guidelines here, but I’m more easygoing than that, so here’s a simplified list.

  • Submissions should be around a 1 minute read to fit the theme of the publication — fiction you can read in a minute or less. The number of lines you use, words you use, etc in your poetry is up to you. (No worries if your work shows up with a 2 minute read time, that’s close enough.)
  • Keep it kind — no hateful or inappropriate content, please.
  • Each submission should have tags that label the piece according to type of work (short poetry, haiku, microfiction) and theme or content.
  • Please include a featured image. The image search function on the ‘new story’ screen makes it easy to add a photo with proper attribution to the creator.
  • Please include an author bio at the bottom of your submission. It can be short, long, have links to your other work, whatever you like. Just keep it within Medium’s guidelines.

FAQ:

When will my story be published?

Soon after you submit so long as everything’s according to the guidelines. We’ll let you know if there’s anything that needs to be edited prior to publication.

Does my submission have to be a response to the prompt of the week?

No. You can submit content on any topic you like (so long as it doesn’t contain things we won’t publish, as stated above); the prompts exist to pique interest and inspire creativity.

Can I send in a submission for a prompt from a past week?

Yes. Prompt responses may be submitted at any time.

Any further questions or feedback?

Send it here.
