Wishing you an advanced Eid :)

In a few days, Muslims all over the world will be celebrating Eid. For those of you unfamiliar with Eid, it is one of the biggest holidays celebrated in my home country, Indonesia.

Iā€™m not a Muslim, so I canā€™t speak on behalf of them. However, I embrace the spirit of Ramadhan like a holiday of my own ā€” even though we donā€™t get to unwrap Christmas gifts under a tree, or cut a warm plate of turkey, I still feel like it has a special place in my heart. For a whole month prior to D-day, Muslims worldwide go on a month long period of fasting, prayer and reflection. The fasting begins before the sun rises and Muslims would start to prepare their SahÅ«r meal before the fajr prayer. The fast ends when the sun sets accompanied with an Adhan prayer.

What makes this season special to me is that it brings the opportunity to reach out to different social groups to ā€œbreak the fastā€ together. Peers and old colleagues that we donā€™t see in ages come to break their fast collectively ā€” despite the fact you fast or not. There is a joy that I feel deep inside, as I see those who are breaking their fast, trying to be mindful of what they first consume and seeing satisfied faces as they take their first bite.

Even during the fasting hours, there is a sense of community that is prominent that makes me ā€œthe outsiderā€ behave more respectful as well. Ramadhan kindles a different atmosphere ā€” people are more gentle, somber, and in a state of prayer. It truly shows a different side of Indonesia. Hampers and gifts are also shared between friends and families to show appreciation, love and care. Closer to D-day, people would travel back ā€œhomeā€ to gather with families and spend Eid together. This period of visiting family and friends will go on for 2ā€“3 days while eating meals together and catching up after being apart for a long time.

With COVID-19ā€™s spread, it definitely has effected how Ramadhan is celebrated. Although there are certain social restrictions, I continuously hope that whoever is celebrating Eid, will share it with their loved ones and cherish this holy month.

MetaLab
Understand the design decisions that build together Headspace. As a digital product studio, it always intrigues me how products are shaped. MetaLab crafted each element to really suit and tailor what Headspace users really need. With trust as their main principle of building this app, its no wonder we continue to engage and use this app just like a peer IRL.

Annoying? Oh you havenā€™t seen this

Museum of Annoying Experiences
Have you ever had doubts on which ā€˜Cancelā€™ button actually cancels your selection and not exits the page? Or gone through those reCAPTCHAs thousands of times only to find out youā€™re not getting it right every single time? This museum sums it up for you. Super cool stuff by the folks at Zendesk. My personal favourite is the Infinite Negative.

Factfulness: Ten Reasons Weā€™re Wrong About the World ā€” and Why Things Are Better Than You Think
ā€¦where using statistical approach, the author argues that the state of the world is better than what most of us think. He cited this website called www.gapminder.org which is pretty cool. It asks a bunch of questions to help you rate your view of the world and tell you the actual situation after.

Rad Retro is back!

Dego Finance
We all know that retro is back in trend, but check out this finance site shared by Agustian! I might not be the most knowledgable on finance stuff, but one thing for sure, this is definitely one of the most properly executed retro sites Iā€™ve seen.
