We have almost reached mid year, folks! It is time where we reevaluate, reflect, and realign on the habits we’ve built in 2021. This month, I took the chance to reflect on my personal growth. The thought of growth and progression has got me wonder on how might we move past our comfort zones as part of our self-reflection ritual. Most of us might have feel that we have sluggishly embossed ourselves to that zone, but in the spirit of moving forward, I invite you to also delve deeper and assess within yourself to the reason behind your comfort zone.

As I reevaluate myself, I found that comfort zones can be easily made up of habits — both good or bad. These could also be made up of minor discomforts that we encounter in our lives. For example, considering that I am raised in an Asian household that upholds a high altruism value, I constantly make decisions that were for the “greater good”. This means that I rarely took on a guilt-free decision that does not concern any of my household members. This is by no means to discount the idea that having altruistic values are bad, but it has been such an influence to my personal being that it has disrupt my individual value. Being at home during lockdown and surrounded with the same people has shaped my current comfort zone. I became “stuck” with the same topics of conversation, interests, and moreover, a skewed angle of information.

Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to start travelling again and venture the world outside of home ground. Conversations with strangers, new sights, and some extra dose of vitamin D definitely help to clear the mind and make sure that we don’t let those discomforts sink in too deep. What are your thoughts on comforts in discomforts? Do you have any discomforts that have shaped your comfort zone?

A decade of web design

Ten years ago
For some of you, ten years ago might mean you’re still in high school. Maybe you’re just starting your first job. Maybe you’ve just discovered Adobe Flash! Well, here’s a reminder for you on what websites look like 10 years ago. Times have changed, my friends.

Some sites have gone some drastic changes…
But some have not really changed…

Something good came out of 2020

Browser History by SquareSpace
Squarespace celebrates people through inspiring stories of their customers using their platform through “Browser History.” For this particular year, they partner up with artist and illustrator Ignasi Monreal, to reimagine how these newly business owners can be portrayed in the renaissance style with little bits of modernity. I personally love the interaction, and if you’re in it for the content…they’re definitely inspiring.

They’re finally “figmalizing”

Sketch in 2021 and beyond
“Figmalizing” was something one of our team members brought up. But it totally gives away the gist of it. It is about time that Sketch makes collaboration way more seamless. But come to think of it, anybody here still using Sketch? 🙋‍♀️

Cancel out the noise

Krisp.ai
The Sixty Two team is a fully remote team. It is not odd that you find us working from a coffeeshop, co-working space, or even by the beach. Here’s an AI-powered app/plug in that makes your online conversations sound crystal clear through filtering out noise and echos.

The dangers of a single story

I’m a big fan of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her novels. But for those of you who are unfamiliar about her, here’s her talk in TED about how perspectives are skewed when you judge a person by their appearances. She unpacks how this misunderstanding could eventually create a significant impact when used carelessly. Adichie is famous for her works in feminism, representing Africans and their stories.

Last but not least, MATERIAL YOU

Material design has definitely won the hearts of many techies out there. Yet, another release proves how the bar and standard is continuously being push at Google. Take a moment to revel in beautiful UI and how immensely customizable they are. We love the breakdown from Fast Company that highlights in detail all the beautiful things Material You is made for. Plus, the Google Event was pretty cool as well.

What’s your pick? We’re curious to know what you’re seeing, reading, listening, and doing. Drop us a line or those claps to see more of these content in the future!
