I’m guessing it was six months or so after Swank’s all-Phred issue that Dan Estabrook stapled together his lament of a skateboarder stuck deep in the middle of winter in the form of Contort #7. “Winter sux.” I could relate, and I’m sure many still do, to the photos of couch-airs, staring at a favorite now-frozen spot, the futility of fingerboards, precious indoor spots, and hard-earned vert sessions after hours of ramp-shoveling, de-icing and mopping.

Where some zine makers opted for quantity over quality, and others vice-versa, Dan regularly packed many high-quality, sexy half-toned photos into many pages of his zine. Pete Diantoni, Rodger Bridges and other Northeastern rippers appear along with some indoor shredding from Kevin Wilkins, Marty Beaudoin, and Gomer at Milwaukee’s skatepark, The Turf.

Dan also provided our small world a service by printing the addresses of many other zine makers to keep the connections going. It wasn’t like you could just Google that shit, you know.

And now.. go. go!
