Our programs are for children as young as 5 years old. Many of the youngest kids start out as part of our Outreach program and go on to join Skate and Create or the Back-to-School program. They love the opportunity to have fun, play and make friends. It’s possible for a child to be part of Skateistan for over 10 years, learning and progressing into Youth Leaders and role models in their communities. In the “Future Of”, we showcase some of the most enthusiastic students at our Skate Schools, who are around 10 years old, about Skateistan and their hopes and dreams for the future!

Name: Fahim

Age: 10 years old

Program: Back-to-School program

What do you do at Skateistan?
I am a student at Back-to-School where I learn a lot.

Why and how did you join?
Fatima was seen in our community where she encouraged my parents to let me be a member of Skateistan’s family and I joined this program in March, 2017.

What did you do before you joined Skateistan?
I was a shoe polisher and I used to earn half a dollar a day to support my family financially.

How does skateboarding make you feel?
I enjoy a lot my time when I am here. Besides learning new things in class I have made a lot of new friends. Furthermore, I have the chance to skate, play football, biking and so much other fun.

What do you enjoy most about Skateistan?
I overall enjoy a lot when I am here, but my favorite is skating and biking.

What do your families think about Skateistan?
They believe Skateistan is the best and right place for kids like me to learn and as well have lots of fun which is good for our health and creativity.

What have you learned at Skateistan?
I can read and write a little bit which I couldn’t before and this gives me a special feeling. I even can skate, play volleyball and cricket.

What’s your favourite thing to do outside of Skateistan?
I watch cartoons and I love to listen to music. Listening to music makes me happy and it changes my feeling.

Who’s your biggest role model?
I can’t say someone specifically, but I want to be a good person who helps his family and others in need.

What would you like to do when you’re older?
I want to be a soldier because I think I can serve my county and can save this country.

Skateistan has been empowering children through skateboarding and education for 10 years now. We are aiming to raise $50,000 by June 21st so we help more boys, like Fahim, access a safe space to play and receive educational support. Help us to achieve our goals by donating at skateistan.org
