We continue to grow our network of programs partners in order to reach more children and youth worldwide. In this Partner Profile, we feature a new partnership with ASCEND that our Skate School in Kabul has formed. Their students come twice a week to take part in our Youth Leadership program and make use of the climbing wall!

Word by Hamdullah.

Founded in 2014 in Afghanistan, ASCEND develops young women into leaders through service and the sport of mountain climbing. Their short term goals include achieving climbing feats, of both known peaks and first ascents. Their long term goal is to develop a cadre of strong female role models and leaders who are equipped and motivated to help their society transition to peace.

In March, we formed a new partnership with ASCEND in order to further engage with girls in Afghanistan through education and sports. ASCEND and Skateistan share the common goal of developing empowered young leaders for change through sport. Both Skateistan and ASCEND believe in the power and talent of the younger generation is the key to a brighter future.

The partnership with ASCEND has many benefits for both organizations and will create new activities in a friendly collaborative learning environment. Students from ASCEND will come to Skateistan to take part in our Youth Leadership program twice a week and use our climbing wall for their trainings and activities. In return they will provide additional trainings for our Educators on how to teach climbing classes as well as supporting in our art classes. Earlier this year they already provided First Aid training for our Youth Leaders and Educators to share their knowledge with both boys and girls in a creative and applicable way.

Working together with organizations like ASCEND enables us to reach more children and youth and help create opportunities for a brighter future. Find out more about Skateistan, what we do, where we work and how you can support.
