Mazar Update: Summer at Skate School

Every week at Skateistan is different and the team in Mazar were busy in June creating new lesson plans and tasks for our students across all programs. It was a busy month, full of creativity, which Educator Noorzai tells us about in the latest update.

Skate and Create
Every semester our goal is to add new things to the lesson plan for the students. So in June we tried to add something that was suggested by students in the past. The lesson plan in June was very creative as the students started carpentry to build some chairs of their own from old skate decks. Every student had the chance get involved in this activity and work with the Educator to build it. Students were happy to take part in this activity as it was their first experience of carpentry — a very useful skill in a student’s life. Students started a new curriculum on science and innovation. They learned about types of energy, how to make the chairs from old skateboards, and more lessons to come..

Skateistan students try to innovate tricks by themselves and they are creative because of their enthusiasm towards skateboarding. Educators and volunteers are always ready to learn and teach new tricks, so everyone is improving their skateboarding.
During Ramadan, we were not able to celebrate Go Skateboarding Day so we will hold a competition among the students and volunteers on another day. Coming soon!
The Skate and Create program continued at external locations in June with students learning many new activities and skate tricks. They were happy to learn new flatground tricks and some tricks on some of our small ramps we bring with us from Skate School. In create classes they learned about the types of energy.

Back-to-School
It is the second month for our new Back-to-School students. They are really good and smart and they coming from different backgrounds. They are really happy due to starting a new life with education and they have all the learning supplies and transportation to make them love the program and come most days!

Youth Leadership
In June our Youth Leadership program was busy. All the Youth Leaders were part of the student council and volunteers meetings. They learned how to prepare a seminar and how to host a seminar. Also in these meetings they discussed about small issues at Skateistan and how to solve them. Our Youth Leaders always try to create new ideas and be creative!
