Back on June 20, 2024, Google released the June 2024 Spam Update.

This is a normal spam update and is not related to link spam and site reputation abuse policy enforcement.

The June 2024 spam update is all about targeting websites violating Google’s spam policies.

What Types of Websites Violate Google’s Spam Policies?

If a website automatically generates content primarily for improving the search ranking, then Google considers it as a spammy website.

Buying or selling links for manipulating the search ranking is also considered spammy practice.

If your website publishes thin or duplicate content, then also it is considered as spammy in the eyes of Google.

Tricking users to redirect them to some other URL in which they were not intended to click is also a spammy practice.

Now, Although Google hasn’t exclusively said, but I believe the June 2024 spam update has been brought to give more fine tune to filter AI generated content and not to give them that much benefits.

Hence, websites that are heavily relying on generating AI content for their website may see a downgrade in their search ranking in the coming month.

Google June 2024 Spam Update Rollout Time

The update starts rolling out from June 20, 2024 and it may take up to 2 weeks for the complete rollout.

Once the roll out completes, you can see its updated status in the Google’s Search Status Dashboard.

Google has a History of Rolling out Spam Updates

To give better user experience to Google Search surfers, Google has released spam updates since June 2021 (as documented).

And since then, Google has released 8 spam updates.

The previous one was the March 2024 spam update.

Google has a dedicated Spam Update Documentation

To let webmasters aware of Google Spam policies, Google has created a dedicated Spam Update Documentation page in its domain.

Now, if you read this paragraph very carefully, it gives a hint towards the answer to the question most webmasters generally ask, “Does disavowing links decrease domain authority?”. Well if you read this paragraph, you can get the idea that, Yes, disavowing links decreases domain authority. In Fact the spammy ones as well, if the page through which they are giving the backlinks.

Conclusion

Google’s June 2024 Spam update is currently rolling out and may complete rollout in the coming two weeks. If your website follows any spammy practices be aware to keep things clean before losing ranking for your keywords.
