Jill:

Taking a gap year has both its pros and cons. Whether or not you take a gap year depends on what you want to do with your life. For example, you need to consider your higher education plans and your future. If you’re an athlete who’s been offered a scholarship, you probably won’t want to take a gap year, since you may lose your scholarship. However, it’s understandable that you may want to take a break from school. Taking a gap year to travel the world or volunteer can be renewing and fulfilling. Keep in mind that you may want to take a gap year working on something you’re passionate about, so that if you do decide to apply to college later on, admissions officers have a better understanding of why you deferred a year. Otherwise, enjoy your time off!

Jack:

Let the soul take you where you want to go. Some kids hear the crash of the waves on Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Others are in a rush to conform to society and file in as many college applications as possible. Ultimately, it depends on how mature you are. Some people believe they are not mature enough to pursue higher education. Consequently, a gap year can help develop a stronger work ethic, which can help in a college setting. On the other hand, some enjoy this taste of freedom too much and never end up going back to college.
