It is great to be heading back to the amazing city of Vancouver, BC, Canada. Due to travel restrictions, we weren’t able to visit from the US for the last few years, so when I heard the ACM SIGGRAPH conference was going to be back here in person in 2022, I was not going to miss the opportunity! The last time I was here a few years back, my daughter and I rented bikes for a week and rode every day, it was amazing and I had planned to come back regularly, but then COVID happened.

I had an evening flight, which I generally try to avoid, but it was direct from Houston and had plenty of room to score a business class upgrade. The flight boarded on time, but was delayed about 30 minutes to allow 7 people on another late flight to make it…when was the last time a plane waited for another flight? Anyway, they passed out champaign, so that was a nice touch.

We arrived a bit late in Vancouver, and then the bags took forever, which is not unusual for International arrivals in Vancouver. I had no problem with Customs and Immigration this time, which was a bonus. This was likely partially due to all the paperwork now being filled out online before you even leave for the airport, including vaccine, COVID…
