If you’re someone that is struggling to find some life at work, then you have found just the place to get started from. The key to a well balanced and trusted relationship often originates from a myriad of humor or even a little bit of mirth. In Chapter two of The Levity Effect by Adrian Gostick, the author explains some benefits of humor by means of verbal and written communication. His definition of mirth can be explained in the acrostic poem below:

More Efficient Meetings

Informal Relationships with Employees

Remarkable Presentations

Training That Sizzles

Humorous Communication

After reading over chapter seven of the book, a quote that really stood out to me explained a major life lesson about the effect of bringing levity into the world. “Remember levity is, as Monty Python defined it, “the opposite of gravity.” Its about lightening up and allowing others to do the same” (Gostick, 2008). What the author means by this is that to achieve the full potential and value of levity, this same feeling should also be reciprocated so everyone falls on the same page. Gostick also listed 142 ways to have fun at work.

Here are my top 8 favorites from the list in no particular order:

1. Have a potluck

2. Have a Halloween dress-up party

· Bonus points if dressed up as the boss

3. Hold afternoon games like board games, videos games, etc.

4. Have a casual day at work

· Casual clothes

5. Blast out a song of the day every afternoon

6. Do something fun for new employees

· Balloons and food

7. Take candid pictures of employees and use them in appropriate presentations

8. Make customers feel like royalty

· Throne like chairs and tiaras for customers
