The way you communicate with your fellow peers can impact the message that you want to get across to them. In this post I am going to walk you through the proper way to interact with your colleagues. Knowing how you present yourself is half the battle when it comes to mastering effective communication. By properly presenting yourself, you can set the tone of the conversation. Whether the conversation will be formal or informal is partly based off your attire. Besides self presentation another way to effectively communicate to your peers is to know your audience.

Knowing and acknowledging what your audience wants to get out of the conversation can bring more meaning to it. You could do this directly through their personal feedback. Once you have their feedback you can always build upon the conversation and improve your message. Having this direct dialog with your peers will have a positive impact on both parties.

In a blog written by Sharlyn Luaby(2014), she mentions that “The working relationships we have with our peers can make us or break us.” I believe this because when you are talking to your peers it’s like walking on a thin line, on either sides you encounter the possibility of unintentionally offending them. This has become a huge issue because if you say something that you think is ok, it might not be ok to others. That’s why its important to be mindful to you audience.

I can relate to this because when I use to talk to customers at my old job I would stay away from sensitive subjects. These subjects included politics, religion, and sports. I put sports in this category because one time I almost got into an argument with a coworker about a certain. Luckily I had enough restraint to change topics avoiding the argument. There is a time and place for these subjects. Make sure to choose your word wisely.
