Is team work important? The answer is yes, team work is extremely important. This is because employers are looking for people who know how to work well with other people. Showing your employer that you can do this means that you are honest and an open communicator, reliable, problem solver, and flexible. When an employer see these qualities in an employee it ensures the company’s longevity and survival.

In the book Communication skills, the author Richard Worth, states that “Teams can’t function efficiently if resentment has built up between different member.” (Worth, 1998). This is especially true because when the team is not on the same page the work that needs to be accomplished gets pushed back. A setback like this can cost the company time, money, and resource. Trust me, employers won’t allow a setback like this. In fact a move like this can cost you your job. An easy way to avoid this is to make sure when you are communicating ideas to your team members, they are listening to everyone. People tend to work better together when the feel appreciated. Another way of doing this is through positive reinforcement. Don’t forget to make sure no one is interrupting each other because this can lead to resentment.

My personal experience with team work goes back to when I was in an engineering class in high school. One of the class assignments that involved team work was creating a robot with a claw. My partner and I divided the work that played to our strengths. He mainly focused on coding the robot and focused on building it. Since we both mutually agreed we were better off this way, we were able to work efficiently and effectively. As a team we finished this robot two weeks before it was due, and when it was time to test it in a classroom competition we finish in first place. The takeaway from my personal experience was always play to each others strengths in a group.
