This is why you need to go for it…

Growing up in Nigeria and being passionate about both laws and Islamic studies, Ojolowo Mascot Nafisat pursued first a diploma in Common and Islamic law followed by a bachelor’s degree in Religion/Religious studies from the University of Ilorin. Parallel with her studies, Nafisat had a volunteering experience of more than 5 years in AIESEC, during which she was exposed to different marketing and project management areas. She occupied positions such as talent manager, vice president of university relations, and sales team leader. This experience along with a feeling that her educational background couldn’t give her the global relevance she was looking for as stated by her led her to dive into a new career, one that she’s excited about and growing within tech sales. As scary and crazy as this shift might sound, Nafisat succeeded in transitioning smoothly and is now working with the biggest Edtech company that uses a blended learning model to accelerate premium digital skills learning for young professionals.

Nafisat shared with us 5 pertinent reasons to become a tech seller, and they are as follows:

1 — The demand is high:

Considering that sales are the one thing that keeps the company going, tech sellers are the wheel of the company. As we all know, tech is the future and the future is now, companies not surprisingly need more salespeople. The bureau of labor statistics predicts that sales positions will grow 5.2% overall.

2 — The pay is high:

The salary wage is always attractive. Apart from the salary, you always have commission. According to Glassdoor, technology sales professionals earned a base salary of $67,542 per year.

3 — The career opportunities are seemingly endless:

Tech sales jobs are everywhere. You won’t have a hard time looking for a job offer. It can be the total opposite, jobs might come to you.

4 — The barrier to entry is low :

It’s not about your background, but rather what you can do. You don’t need to have wild knowledge in sales or tech, and there is no formal education required.

5 — It’s an interesting job:

You’ll never get bored. In tech sales, you’re always learning or trying something new. Moreover, it’s more about connecting with people, building relationships, and working on your interpersonal skills which brings fun to the table.

Although it might seem all good and easy, every career switch is accompanied by some challenges. For Nasifat, the biggest challenge is that sales can be so emotional sometimes. Thus, as a tech seller, she sometimes has an emotional imbalance. But, we would say that challenge is part of the process and even an appealing reason to dive into the world of sales.

Overall, there are plenty of reasons out there for you to consider pursuing a career in sales such as increasing your chances to get the job in a market characterized by high demand, earning a competitive and encouraging salary, enjoying the job itself, and enjoying the challenges you may face.
