Skillshare for Apple TV

When I think back to college, some of the most exciting and valuable moments of a semester were when someone from industry was invited to teach.

I remember being in awe. These were real people making real stuff. Learning directly from them and looking over their shoulder as they taught was like magic. It bridged a gap between what we were being taught and what was possible in a way that fueled creativity and inspiration.

When I talk about Skillshare, the thing that gets me fired up more than anything is our classes. My line typically goes a little like, “They’re just amazing, it’s like having a backstage pass to learning.” And in that moment, something clicks, the perception of ‘online education’ changes, and I hear “…oh!” Suddenly there’s a sense of curiosity and inspiration around what it’d be like to go behind-the-scenes with a teacher and to learn by doing.

When Apple launched the new Apple TV, we knew it made sense for Skillshare to make our debut in the living room.

Skillshare’s content was made for the big screen. It’s bold, beautiful, and at its heart, a narrative. It’s a way to be there with the teacher: a documentary if you will, and an authentic look at the process of creativity.

Classes on Skillshare can be taught by anyone, from companies and professionals to anyone with a laptop and a skill to share. Classes span a range of creative disciplines and are bite-sized enough (typically less than an hour) that they might even substitute for an evening of Netflix.

Whether brushing up on your Knife Skills with Plated, picking up some tips on Street Photography, or Discovering Your Creative Voice, there are thousands of classes to start learning.

We launched Skillshare for Apple TV last month, and it’s been fascinating to witness this new platform unfold and to hear how the community is receiving the new experience. Of course, while we have a pretty exciting vision for Skillshare across our mobile apps, nothing means more to us than hearing your feedback. Every email, tweet, and even Instagram helps to shape the evolution of our products, and we’re committed to making them awesome. I make a point of checking appfeedback@skillshare.com every morning. Please do let us know what you think, and thank you for all your feedback so far.

The app is a whole new way to experience Skillshare, and one that we feel really complements what our classes stand for. We hope you love it just as much as we do.

Next time you fancy a night in, search Skillshare in the App Store, sit back, go behind-the-scenes, and learn something new.
