The days are getting longer and warmer, and the desire to do homework is quickly dissipating. With only a few weeks left of my undergraduate college experience, I am torn between wanting it to be done tomorrow and wanting to have another year left. Of course, having the last three semesters be on the computer doesn’t help this. Nevertheless, my motivation to do my homework and classwork is starting to dwindle quickly and my excitement for warm weather, a few weeks off, and starting my career is taking over. I know that everyone says to not wish away your college experience, but I have to argue with that point given our current state of school. I don’t find myself necessarily wishing away my college experience, but I am wishing away the current college experience I am having and starting a new experience away from Zoom University…and I know I’m not alone. This past year and a half of virtual school has been challenging in new and unique ways that no one could have anticipated. So, here are a few tips to help finish strong for my fellow seniors in their last leg of college:

1. Continue to take care of yourself.

It’s super easy to get wrapped up in final projects, theses, exams, and applying for jobs…and forgetting to take care of yourself. Make sure that in this stressful time, you are continuing to make time for selfcare and things that are important to you. Whether it is going for a walk, reading a book for fun, eating dinner with family/friends, putting your screens away for an hour, or practicing one of your hobbies, make sure you are making the time for those things. To finish the semester and find a new job, you have to bring your best self — you can’t do this if you aren’t taking care of yourself.

2. Continue to stay organized.

With so many things going on in this period of our lives, it can become overwhelming very quickly. From making sure you have all of your graduation requirements to finding a place to live after graduation and securing a job, our minds are going in every direction. Take a few extra moments each week to ensure your priorities are laid out and you have goals to make sure you are on the right track to completing these important tasks.

May is coming soon…I add everything to my planner so I know what’s up next!

3. Continue to stay motivated.

You’ve done 3.5 semesters already…does this last one really matter? YES. I’m not saying that your grades and your GPA are going to necessarily matter in the workforce, but your work ethic will. If you give up now in classes when there is a tough assignment or one you just don’t feel like doing, you are setting yourself up for a bad pattern of behavior that you definitely don’t want to take with you into your career. I know it might be tough or annoying even, but these last weeks and last projects do matter. Finish strong!

4. Spend some time enjoying your last few weeks of college (safely).

You’re almost to the end — you’ve earned some celebration and relaxation time. Completing your undergraduate degree (or high school, graduate school, etc.) is such a major life accomplishment that deserves to be rewarded. You’ve worked tremendously hard these past four years… give yourself some grace and make sure you enjoy the final weeks of it!

If you’re lucky, maybe you will be getting that in-person graduation ceremony for recognition. If not, make your own celebration! Regardless, there are only a few months left. Finish strong and celebrate yourself… you’re almost to the finish line!
