Tiger could swing a golf club before he could walk and played golf on a national TV-show as a two-year-old. As a five-year-old, he shot close to par. Rarely has anyone been more destined to become a star than Tiger Woods. But how did it happen? Did he have a special golf gene, or was there something else behind his success?

Finding the fun

“Don’t force your kids into sports. I never was. To this day, my dad has never asked me to go play golf. I ask him. It’s the child’s desire to play that matters, not the parent’s desire to have the child play. Fun. Keep it fun.” — Tiger Woods

Tiger grew up watching his father hitting golf balls. Before he could talk, he was sitting in a high-chair watching his father practice. As soon as they gave him a chance, he wanted to hit golf balls too. His father decided to coach his son from an early age. But rather than pushing him to play, it was Tiger who begged his father to play. His parents simply supported him and allowed him to do what he loved.
