How SKOOT is The First Carbon Negative Mobility App
Tomorrow is too late. We need to act now, and some people believe that even today is too late to solve the global climate crises.
The good news? Lot’s of companies are talking about becoming carbon neutral.
The bad news? For most, it’s sometime in the future (some even as late as 2050).
But they need to really think again!
Why not be carbon neutral or negative today? It’s not that difficult it just takes time, money and a commitment.
As a mobility App, we believe it’s fundamental that we are, and pride ourselves on being the only carbon negative lift and errand app in the world.
But we’d honestly be happier if we weren’t the first and we shouldn’t be the only.
Owning your own car is an easy option but finding a sustainable alternative to mobility is difficult. At SKOOT, we ensure our carbon status by calculating your car’s CO2 rating multiplied by the miles travelled on the SKOOT platform and then adding 10%. This makes us carbon negative and earth positive. Cool, Right?
Alongside actually reducing the number of cars on the road and journey’s by helping provide a technological solution for lift-sharing, connecting friends that need lifts or help, with friends that drive.
For many, it would be impossible to suddenly give up their car (or even imagine it), especially if they’ve been allowed the freedom to drive for such a long time. Don’t worry, we aren’t asking you to do that, but what we are saying is that you can offset the journeys you do with the tap of a button. Okay, maybe a couple of taps! 😁
Carbon dioxide is the biggest contributor to global warming and over 25% of the world’s carbon emissions come from road transport. At SKOOT we don’t want to be a burden on the environment, so we plant trees. For every 3 journeys you do — we plant a tree. And every quarter we check that there have been enough trees planted to be carbon negative.
Alongside that, we ensure every SKOOTer (that’s someone who works for SKOOT) is totally carbon negative. And not just for the time that they are working say Mon-Fri, their total carbon emissions for 24/7.
To date, we’ve planted over 10,000 trees, and as we grow this number is hopefully going to go up and up. With the help of our sustainable partners, including Eden Reforestation we get to plant trees all around the world. They ensure the trees planted are indigenous and hence have an 80% success rate of reaching their full adult life.
We do actually have a favourite tree, it’s called the Mangrove. Mangroves are only found in Madagascar (75% of tree species are in Madagascar only). We think they’re wicked because estimates suggest they take up carbon at a rate of 2–4 times greater than mature tropical forests. Each tree removes around 308kg of carbon dioxide over its lifetime which is approximately 25 years. Mangrove trees have also shown they exceed over 200% of what has been planted. This is incredible as they use Mangrove trees as natural coastal defences from floods and storms.
Don’t tell the other trees though…
