Over $20,ooo has been donated so far to Iowa State’s kid captain Abby Faber after a viral Instagram post was uploaded by Texas Christian University (TCU) quarterback Trevone Boykin:

According to a tcu360.com article, a TCU fan created a collection on youcaring.com this Thursday with the original goal of collecting $5,000 for Faber’s treatments. That goal has been surpassed and the current goal is set to $25,000.

Much of the money and support for Faber’s future treatments can be linked to Star-Telegram photographer Paul Moseley’s shot of Boykin keeling down, talking to Faber before the coin-flip of the TCU-Iowa State football game.

According to a star-telegram.com article, Moseley’s shot went viral after ESPN’s SportCenter posted the image to its Instagram site on Monday.

The post was also highlighted on today.com and spoke of the new fandom Faber and her family have for Boykin.

The image has more than 11,200 “likes” on Boykin’s Instagram site alone and continues to boost Boykin’s fame.

TCU professor Andrew Ledbetter, who has a doctorate in communication studies, said Trevon’s gesture would only make local news if he was not in contention for the Heisman Trophy.

Boykin’s heightened status seems to allow everyone involved with him to have more notoriety.

Moseley told the Star-Telegram that his picture has become his most popular picture and he is glad to be associated with that event.

Boykin put out another Instagram post saying that he wishes TCU would do more promotions like Iowa State does to “inspire young people.”

It is heartwarming to see Boykin’s selflessness and caring for others. He sets a great example for athletes and people. It is also uplifting to see social media being used to push a noble cause and to help those in need by following Boykin’s example.
