Quivering shafts of light
The fridge and the flies, gracefully buzzing
Three succulent plants in shade
Each of a slightly different kind of green
The city’s murmur
And fragments of birdsong
Rising up to a thunder-like crescendo
Sifted through the veil of the curtains
Like this warm summer air
