Sky Collection’s Poetry Month Project
We are dawning on National Poetry Month in the United States, and I am very excited. I have a lot of projects planned for this month — especially for my students.
For Poetry Month on Sky Collection, I’ve decided to challenge myself to do a deep(ish) dive into some contemporary poets’ works.
True to most of the prompts here at SC, I will post a quote prompt every day in April. The quotes will come from lines or stanzas that resonate with me. Although the lines will be taken out of context from their original poems, I will give credit to the works and link to the whole text, when possible. Then, I will write a poem that is inspired by that line or group of lines by themselves. All Sky Collection writers are invited to try this!
I’ve made a list in my library, so you can follow along.
The first post will go out on the afternoon of March 28. Although I have already curated a list of poets to study, I welcome your suggestions. I am looking at published works from the years 2000–2023. Just reply in the comments about the poets you recommend.
A little note on the poets — I am connected to so many amazing poets here on Medium. For this specific project, I have decided to research outside of this platform by using the print publications I subscribe to as well as some modern anthologies on my bookshelf. This forces me to pick up a book!
Happy Poetry Month, happy writing, and happy reading!
