Welcome to our third National Poetry Month Quote Prompt! All of the prompts are featured in this list.

Today I am quoting the poet Ed Roberson.

and so much lost you’d think
beauty had left a lesson

-Ed Roberson, from “Once the Magnolia has Blossomed”

If I Knew Grief

every year now
we add up the time since you’ve been gone
before we could only guess
drop marbles in a jar for the days
you had left

we picked up the pieces of your life
and discarded in a game of
keep or toss
the frog prince print
and the overlaying bicycles photography
collages from childhood
remnants of the divorce

I’d like to go back for just
a moment
stand on the white rock
under the willow tree —
when I didn’t know how to count
worries about how you end
