Just for a moment
I see you in my mind’s eye
spirit of Christmas

conveyed in your smile
you tell me to enjoy it
cleansing tears falling

you help me to let
go of the anger, sadness
that descended in

the wake of passing
when God required an angel
to whip up the day.

Having a loved one pass away during the Holiday season is one of the hardest things to live through. It rubs against your heart each passing year. It can stop any joy during the season and make you cynical. It takes a great deal to heal.

A few years ago, a wonderful friend of my family’s passed away in her sleep just mere weeks before Christmas. She was the type that wouldn’t want you to grieve, to remember the good times and let life go on.

For me, however, it sealed my hatred of the season. It’s only now, years later, that my hatred is beginning to fade. I feel that she has a part in that.
