How we approach all projects + our values at Skyamo

Our values

  • Reflect
  • Listen carefully
  • Focus
  • Seek inspiration
  • Play to win
  • Be a team player
  • Educate and empower

Let’s explore how these values help our clients enjoy success.

Reflect

You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future — Steve Jobs

There’s real power in reflection — it helps us to move forward. Some of the clearest thinking happens during and after a period of reflection. So at Skyamo, we block out periods of time to digest, learn and reflect for our clients. Simply, did we help them get closer to their goal or not?

Some of the questions we ask after each experiment:

  • Did the experiment work?
  • Why not?
  • What did we learn?
  • What could we try next time?

Asking these questions helps us to know how impactful our work was to the clients main objective.

We spend time digging into analytics and asking “why”. Our findings are clearly written up into a Google Doc report with results, learnings and next steps. We share this with the team and ensure they are much clearer about what they need to do next.

Listen Carefully

“Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you’d have preferred to talk.” — Doug Larson

To Clients

Skyamo works to solve a team’s problems around product and marketing to help them grow. In order to do that, It’s imperative we listen to our client’s wants and needs.

To Users

Startups often struggle with making things people want, and that’s because they rarely ask them. So we ask questions and listen to users A Lot. This is one our finest growth hacks. We create systems that mean our clients receive more feedback that they can action on.

By asking hard questions to both our clients and their users, we get answers that are rarely heard.

Focus

I don’t focus on what I’m up against. I focus on my goals and I try to ignore the rest. Venus Williams

You can only score if you know where the goal is. So we define the goal: the One Metric That Matters for our clients. Our strategy is then solely focused on improving that metric for them.

Seek Inspiration

Learn from the best — Tim Ferriss

Greatness comes in many forms and we seek it out for our clients. Whilst we know our stuff, when working on a team’s problems we learn from the best. We go really deep into areas and spend time researching the best methods to achieve a set goal. For example, if we’re working on a new topic of SEO for a client, we will speak to the best SEOs we know and learn about their experiences with it.

Working like this ensures we always bring fresh ideas to the table and are sourcing information from a wide range of really smart people.

To stay inspired, we keep a scrapbook of the most relevant content we come across. We update this weekly and our clients can easily access to stay informed. It consists of the best:

  • Articles
  • Conversations we had
  • Images
  • Copy
  • Ads
  • Landing pages
  • Product flows

Play to win

Show me a good loser, and I’ll show you a loser — Vince Lombardi

We don’t do anything for the sake of it, we play to win. And that means we take the success of our clients very seriously. Startups are very hard and the only way to thrive is to be on top of your game and consistently perform.

We set standards of excellence across everything and we train hard to ensure we are experts in what we do. We stay sharp by learning new skills, reading books, speaking with other experts and working on interesting projects.

This helps us to find that edge our clients can benefit from.

Be a team player

Talent wins’ games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships — Michael Jordan

When Leicester City won the Premier League in 2016, it was the single greatest team victory in sports. A group of underdogs consistently came together as a team to achieve something great and beat the big boys.

Every startup needs to do the same to be successful — and having a great team ethic is central to that. So we make sure that from Day 1, we are adding value to teams we work with and don’t slow them down. We pride ourselves on working independently and getting shit done without any hand holding.

However, we love collaboration and ensure everything we work on is easily accessible for feedback in Trello / Asana. Our clients can easily see how the project is progressing and get the answers they need in real time.

So the team is completely up to speed on the project every week, we will have a meeting with the CEO, Head of Marketing/Growth or Head of Product. During this meeting we:

  • Update them on the previous week’s progress
  • Set the agenda for the upcoming week.

We know communication is key in teams so make sure we are always reachable via Slack, Skype, Gmail chat etc.

Educate + empower

Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime — Chinese Proverb

Our goal is to ensure that after working together, teams are wiser and more equipped to achieve their long term growth goals. We need to know they:

  • Are confident of how they would approach growth problems
  • Feel empowered to run experiments in future
  • Use data to inform their decisions

We do this in two ways:

  • Empower: We set up tools and systems so they can easily run and analyse experiments going forward.
  • Educate: Run workshops and provide step by step guides, key resources and trello cards.

We love these values and know exactly how they help us to elevate all the projects we work on to new heights.
