My daughter and I were visiting New York and I had chest pains, so we came here. We ended up staying two nights. Clean, friendly hosts, convenient in-room bathroom. On the second day Ellen, the nurse, let me sit by the window and look at the view over the East River. Still have the chest pains, though.

This is my first time writing a review, but I just want to say that Ellen was a great host! It’s in a perfect location — as soon as you leave your room, you’re in the heart of everything: the nursing station, the elevator to the Emergency Department, and even a refrigerator full of apple juice and Kozyshack pudding cups. Free transportation to and from other essentials, including the in-house short-term acute rehabilitation center. As other reviewers have noted, the nurse call button doesn’t always work, but if you scream loudly enough, Ellen will usually come within five minutes. I hadn’t planned on staying more than one night, but I ended up staying a week!

Stayed for a couple of days in this place. Here’s what I felt:

Pros:

- Beds are very clean and can be adjusted
- Neighborhood is safe
- Place comes with unlimited pudding and apple juice (and free pajamas!)

Cons:

- Not much closet space
- Decor kind of “sterile”
- Slow wifi
- The bed is uncomfortable, and you have to be attached to an IV unit while using it

If you can’t find anywhere else, it’s not the worst option. At $11,500/night without insurance, though, it’s a bit pricey for what you get.

Never go to this place. I only booked for one night, but the hosts would not let me leave. Check in was a huge hassle: I had to spend 18 hours in the Emergency Department before they would let me into my room. The hosts kept asking me intrusive personal questions, like what I ate for lunch and how solid my bowel movements were. Then they told me I couldn’t have any more pudding cups because I kept throwing up. When I finally left by climbing down the fire escape, they billed me $49,000! Next time, I’ll try a hospital in New Jersey.

This is my second time staying here and writing a review, and I just want to say: Don’t listen to the negative reviews! Obviously, this place is not for everyone, and some people won’t be too happy having to wear a paper gown or having to call for help every time they want to use the restroom. But if you’re open to new experiences, you might actually enjoy yourself. I got so used to the bedpan that I even bought one to use at home.

Even though this place is on the Upper East Side, don’t be fooled — it’s not stuck up like you might think. The medical staff is young and friendly, and they were always smiling when they came by to take my blood samples and to check to see if I was still alive. The food trays are convenient, but the chicken marsala was overcooked and the orange mush it came with had a slight metallic flavor — not the best you can find on the UES, let alone Manhattan. A good choice if you can’t consume solid foods.

Room was small, but that’s to be expected in New York. Other guests were not very friendly and they all seemed to be a little under the weather.

Ahhhh! Where do I begin?! This is such a cute spot. First of all, you don’t even need parking — the ambulance will drop you right off at the door, and they’ll wheel you in. It is SUPER accessible if you are in a wheelchair, and if you need one you can just borrow one for your stay. When I came to the hospital, I couldn’t even walk — but thanks to the AMAZING hosts by the end of my stay I was able to move around completely on my own. The one thing I will say is that the curtain separating the bed from the next guest bed is a little thin, and you can kind of hear everything they are saying. But if you need a Kozyshack pudding at any time of night, you can just hit the emergency call button and Ellen will come bring it to you. Or you can just yell loudly enough and she’ll show up within minutes. Amazing!

Response from Ellen (Host)

Erica — I’m so glad that we could make your gall bladder removal as pleasant as possible. We hope you won’t need to stay with us again soon!

This is my third time staying here, and I want to update my previous positive reviews. After my earlier stays, I was really looking forward to coming here for major reconstructive surgery. Ellen wasn’t around, the room was too cold, and I was woken up at 3:30am when the person staying in the next bed started yelling at the nurses for pudding. This might not bother some people who are heavy sleepers, but after a full day in surgery I really needed some rest. The other bed even blocked my view of the river, so all I could see was a parking lot and some dumpsters. All in all, a very disappointing experience, and I no longer even enjoy using my bedpan at home.

The room looks bigger in the pictures. Hosts are nice but too busy to spend much time with you. Getting all three meals in bed is a nice touch. Overall, would recommend this place next time you’re about to die.
