Why is it called “Blues Brothers 2000” when it was released in 1998?

Good question! At the time, the marketing team at Universal felt that with the new Millennium approaching that adding “2000” to the title was an effective way to capitalize on what would eventually become Y2K fever. The thought at the time was that Blues Brothers 2000 sounded more modern and interesting than Blues Brothers 2 and, thus, would attract a younger audience.

With John Belushi having passed away in 1982, why make this movie?

Blues Brothers 2000 is a love letter to the fans. While we were all saddened by John’s death and knew that his presence would be missed in the sequel, we felt we had a distinct obligation to honor his memory. It was our belief that the best way to do that was to go out and make a film that was just as good, if not better than the first.

At the very least couldn’t you have gotten Jim Belushi?

We actually did attempt to reach out to John’s brother, Jim. Unfortunately he had a scheduling conflict as he was working on the ABC show, Total Security.

I’ve never heard of Total Security? Was it any good?
