You’re American Hero Pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger. Today’s the day you embark on your epic feat to save an entire flight. Avoid geese across the New Jersey skies and raise your public profile as conqueror of the heavens. The perfect game for aerophiles and casual gamers alike, Sully: Miracle on the Hudson: The Game invites you to channel your inner celebrity wingman in a rousing adaptation of 2009’s gripping news event.

Object:

Hit the skies for a roller coaster ride flight — dodge Canadian geese, accumulate passengers, and stick the landing in the Hudson River. Save the most passengers in your emergency landing and become an American hero!

Contents:

6 Airbus A320s and 6 Pilot Pegs
2 Canadian Geese
36 Passenger Pegs
1 Die
1 Goose Nest Spinner
12 Air Traffic Control Cards
24 At the Mercy of the Sky Gods Cards

Set it up!

Give each player:
1 Airbus A320
1 Pilot peg (must be the same color) and 2 Passenger Pegs to insert into the A320
Place all players’ Airbus A320s on Laguardia’s Runway 4 and get ready to fly!

Sully Fact! Did you know Chesley Sully Sullenberger’s IQ was deemed high enough to be granted admission to MENSA at 12 years old?

How to Play:

The player who has most recently flown out of a New York City airport goes first.

On Your Turn:

  1. Roll and Move
If you passed an ATC Space, pick up an Air Traffic Control card.
  2. Notice where you landed!
No, not in the Hudson yet! But, based on the space you landed on, something special may occur:
  • Boarding Space: Add a passenger peg to your A320.
  • Icarus Space: Pick up an At the Mercy of the Sky Gods card. Complete the action on the card or save the card for your American Hero Public Profile Points at the end of the game.
Example: “You’ve flown too close to the sun, mortal human! Lose two passengers from your Airbus A320 as a sacrifice to the sky gods.”
  • Goose on the Loose Space: Spin the Goose Nest Spinner. Place a Canadian Goose on a space with the same color as the result of your spin. If both Canadian Geese are on the board, choose one goose to relocate.
  • Unavoidable Flock Space: Your joyride is over! You’ve flown through a Flock of Unavoidable Geese. All players reach this space eventually if they aren’t already crashing from hitting a Canadian Goose. On your next turn begin your descent at the George Washington Bridge.

Did you hit a goose?

If you pass a space where another player placed a Canadian Goose, proceed immediately to the George Washington Bridge and begin your descent into the Hudson. If you have an Air Traffic Control card that allows you to temporarily avoid a premature descent, use it!

Win!

Begin your descent into the Hudson either by hitting a Canadian Goose or reaching the Unavoidable Flock space. Continue until you reach the stretch of the Hudson near Battery Park. Once all players have stuck their landing, tally your American Hero Public Profile points as follows. The player with the highest American Hero Public Profile points wins!

  • Each passenger in the A320 at the point of landing = 100 American Hero Public Profile Points
Note: If you have no passengers at the point of landing, you are eliminated from the game. Go be a regular, rinky-dink pilot without a lucrative public speaking career, loser.
  • Air Traffic Control Cards = 50 to 500 American Hero Public Profile Points
Example: Random House contacts you! You’ve got a book deal!
+250 American Hero Public Profile Points
  • At the Mercy of the Sky Gods Cards = -200 to +200 American Hero Public Profile Points
Example: Clint Eastwood makes a film about your triumph, but he also does this weird racist rant to an empty chair at the RNC
+150 American Hero Public Profile Points for the movie
    — 200 American Hero Public Profile Points for the weird racist rant

You did it, Sullyites! You successfully navigated an emergency landing on the Hudson and saved passengers in the process. Not quite the endeavor of real American exemplar Sully himself, but we can all one day hope to be the beacon of courage he is.
