It was raining the night it happened. And, boy, did it rain. 6 inches, all told. A few miles outside Fairvale, against the winding California hills, rests a glowing safe haven that beckons like a siren’s call: The Bates Motel. When Marion Crane pulled into this eerie roadside inn, little did she know she would never make it out alive.
Our story begins in the bustling city of Phoenix, Arizona, The Valley of the Sun, as the locals call it. Marion Crane, a real estate secretary, was, by all accounts, your typical girl next door. She was popular in her community, had good work ethics, and easy on the eyes, too. So, when Marion failed to show up to work on Monday morning, she turned a few heads.
And Marion wasn’t the only thing missing: Money, and a lot of it, too. Forty thousand dollars to be exact. The sort of money people kill for. Now, the question on everybody’s mind: What would lead Marion to embezzled money? The answer, it turned out, was love.
Marion had been in a secret love affair with a handsome hardware store owner by the name of Sam Loomis. Oh, how they loved each other. Like so many young women her age, Marion had yearned for marriage, children, and the white picket fence, but there was one issue standing in her way… Sam’s alimony…
