To Whom It May Concern,

Matt here, though many of you may know me as Matt the Meme Guy. In the past I’ve been referred to as Matt the YouTube guy, Matt the Jib-Jab guy, Matt the “poke” you on Facebook guy, and way back in the day, I was Matt the chain email guy. For nearly 20 years I’ve been providing this office with A+ entertainment via any number of online sources. These past few years, I’ve turned my attention to memes where I quickly established myself as something of a savant. Providing workplace humor via Slack, reply-all emails, texts, and by thrusting my phone in people’s faces, I took my role as office meme creator seriously, viewing this work as part of my necessary function within the hierarchy of the company. But of late, I’ve started to feel that you’re all taking my memes for granted.

With me, you never had to ask for memes and you never had to thank me for memes because I was happy to provide what I viewed as an essential inter-office service, often setting aside my actual work so as to provide a well-timed and on-point meme when it was needed the most. While memes were not listed in my official job description — as Beth in Human Resources loves reminding me — I felt it was where I added the most value to this company.
