Digital marketing is an enthusiastic field of work, full of job opportunities because of the constant growth of technology. As you may already know, it is just a matter of time until all companies will go online if they still want to remain relevant in the market. During this transition, search engines will become more and more intelligent and people more pretentious. To make people happy about the online content, there is a high need for skilled people behind the curtains that will make this happen.

Happy people, good profits

So what is digital marketing?

The only difference from traditional marketing is that you influence and connect with customers online, using multiple channels and strategies to analyze user behavior, campaigns and make improvements with the help of useful tools.

There are many types of digital marketing, but I will only share a brief description of the most important ones, so you can get an idea about what will fit you better.

Search Engine Optimisation(SEO)

SEO is organic advertising that includes optimizing your articles and pages using multiple techniques to rank in top positions on search engines like Google or Bing when keywords relevant to your website content are searched.

Search Engine Optimization(SEM)

While SEO covers the organic search, SEM is that marketing branch that refers to paid traffic. Marketers are paying the search engine a predefined amount of money to communicate a message or promotion to customers using tools like Google Ads, Next or Bing Ads.

Social Media Marketing

Because social media became such a huge part of our lives, it’s nowadays a great way to make people aware of your brand or products by connecting and share information with your followers, fans, etc. Start engaging in conversations. Find out what people like, what they expect from you and use this information to post quality content.

Content Marketing

This type of marketing is more about educating people, teaching and sharing useful information, but you can also entertain them with stories, facts, videos or other valuable content. In that way, when they gain trust in your brand you can turn them into leads.

Besides the many roles you can take in this area of work, here are some more reasons that should convince you digital marketing is the right choice as a career path:

High demand for digital marketing professionals

As the old ways of marketing start to fade, companies discover that digital marketing is more effective because you can reach hundreds of targeted people in a short period of time. With this industry reaching new heights every day, there’s a high request for creative minds that can contribute in increasing the online presence of any brand.

This type of marketing is the kind that will not seize to exist as long as people are consuming and using products. It’s not a trend, it’s the future!

Learn it from home.

The internet is full of useful information. Many of the specialists in the field started by watching YouTube tutorials, reading articles, and then they practiced the skills gained on existing websites. Analyze as many websites as you can. Try to see what strategies they used, what keywords worked for them, study their target audience and then think about what you would do differently.

Of course, you should consider at some point getting certified for better earnings, credibility when applying to jobs and it also increases your knowledge. For starters, Google Academy for Ads is a great way to learn the basics in Google Analytics, Google Ads, Tag Manager and much more. They are also giving certificates of completion for those who pass the tests.

Great earnings.

There is a high demand for qualified Digital Marketers, and little professionals to occupy open positions. That could only mean one thing: more opportunities to negotiate remuneration, whether you work for a company or as a freelancer.

According to payscale, the biggest salaries are in the US, followed by Australia and the UK. As a Digital Marketing specialist, you can earn an average salary of $48,948 in the US, $46,613( AU$64,905) in Australia and 34,159$(£25,947) in the UK.

For both analytical and creative minds.

There’s a place for everyone. If you consider yourself a wizard with words, you enjoy reading or you like digging for information, start considering a career in content creation. If you are more of an analytical mind, working as a web analytics specialist could fit you better. Part of the job description requires proficiency in market research and analysis, making recommendations regarding process improvements and helping develop performance policies and procedures.

In conclusion, digital marketing is a fascinating profession, a continuous challenge suitable for people with initiative and desire for lifelong learning. If you are a curious, creative, problem solver, innovative person or you have excellent communication skills, this will definitely be an exciting career, with lots of opportunities all over the world.
