This is the second in our series about Women Who Build (WW_B) — an internal Slalom Build community focused on recruiting and retaining the best technical talent and dispensing with the idea that tech is non-inclusive. With a mission “to engage, inspire, and encourage every Slalom woman to achieve her full and unique potential”, WW_B is supporting female technologists across the organization, and throughout their careers. For our first profile, check out this article.

Meet Jodi Jones, a Solution Architect from our Charlotte Build Center.

Where did your career start?

My first job out of college was a Management Trainee at Enterprise Rent-a-Car. While picking up strangers, renting out, and washing cars isn’t glamorous, it definitely formed my work ethic, sense of urgency, and preferred management style.

What drew you to the tech industry?

It was a fluke! A recruiter friend I was working with found a role on LinkedIn that they felt matched my skills and abilities but would also stretch me to new limits. I didn’t know it then, but landing that job was the springboard for finding my passion.

What was a high-impact event in your career that’s shaped who you are today?

I am who I am today due to my days at AvidXchange. When I joined, the company was still small — around 50 people. I had an absolutely amazing manager who led/inspired by example, always had an open door, and gave me a great deal of autonomy in my role. Long story short, through that autonomy I discovered my passion for working with others to implement and design software solutions. I’ve had roles in technology ever since and feel I am in my sweet spot.

What brings you joy in your work?

Knowing that I am making a difference and adding value to a client, a team, or a product.

What brought you to Slalom?

A former co-worker reached out to me talking about a role he thought I might be interested in at the best company he’s ever worked for. Every conversation I had with the recruiter, hiring manager, or interview team was just “easy breezy” and comfortable. I really felt everyone cared about the role being a fit for both of us and on every level, rather than just trying to fill an empty position with a body. I haven’t looked back on the decision to join once, but I realize how lucky I am to be here quite often

What’s the vibe of your market?

I would describe the Charlotte _build Team as a bunch of friendly people who are dedicated to their teammates and to producing success for our clients.

If you were queen for a day, what are the top 5 things you’d do?

· As an absolute dog lover I’d want to ensure that all dogs currently in shelters find safe, loving, and permanent homes for free.

· Travel someplace exotic with my husband.

· Find a permanent cure for cancer and diabetes as these greatly impact my family.

Jodi is one of many inspiring women that Slalom Build is proud to have as part of the team. We’ll be bringing more stories from these exceptional individuals as we continue in our series of Women Who Build.
