2）The explanation of Alice & Bob
“Alice” and “Bob” are virtual characters widely used in the context of cryptography and information security. Their names are often used in “stories” to illustrate scenarios and examples related to cryptography and network communication.
Specifically, Alice and Bob are typically depicted as two communicators who want to securely exchange a secret message. In this scenario, when Alice wants to send a secret message to Bob, it helps explain what encryption techniques or protocols are used between them.
The “story” of Alice and Bob is used as an intuitive and understandable way to teach and discuss principles of cryptography and security.
This framework was first used by Rivest, Shamir, and Adleman (the developers of the RSA encryption) in their 1978 paper titled “A Method for Obtaining Digital Signatures and Public-Key Cryptosystems.” Since then, examples involving Alice and Bob have been used in many textbooks, papers, lectures, and are widely recognized as standard characters in the field of cryptography.
3）The lore behind Alice
Alice — the next / society -
The protagonist, Alice, graduated from high school but didn’t pursue a proper job. She spent her ordinary and boring days in the streets of Brooklyn with vague dreams. Her daily solace came from gazing at the antique necklace she inherited from her beloved grandmother.
In the streets, there’s a trend around the cryptic world called “/SOCIETY (Slash Society, abbreviated as SS)” created by the legendary figure Zoe, who has become somewhat of an urban legend.
Alice’s friends around her are caught up in discussions about marriage and childbirth, leaving Alice feeling incredibly lonely and wondering why she’s the only one in such solitude.
Alice, who was losing hope in life, is introduced to Bob, a person completely opposite to herself, by her friend Walter. She becomes drawn to Bob’s personality, and from that day on, her ordinary life begins to change. Her days become filled with encounters with her rival, Mallory, and frequent unrealistic accidents. Her and Walter have grown closer than in the past but something still seems a bit strange.
In the midst of all this, Alice’s father, Frank, appears in her life, whom she hasn’t seen for several years since she graduated high school. He has fully changed careers from his past work to now working as the head of a secret government organization. He informs Alice about the current state of cyberterrorism happening worldwide. The terrorism is starting to affect the real world, with its origin coming from someone within the “SS”.
The shocking revelation of the existence of a criminal organization and the fact that the mastermind of the organization is none other than Alice and Bob’s close friend, Walter, is hard to come to terms with for Alice.
Three items owned by Alice, Bob, and Mallory become the key to “saving SS” when combined. Alice is perplexed by the movie-like development and the current situation, but she clarifies “who she wants to become” as she confronts the situation unfolding in front of her.
What is Walter’s true purpose? What is the truth behind the existence of the cryptic world “/SOCIETY” created by Zoe? Can the three of them save both the SS and the real world? It’s a story of friendship, family bonds, and love in a tale of romance and fantasy.

Alice Mayfair

A beautiful woman who seeks love and dreams, while working as a waiter. Her father hails from London, but due to her parents’ circumstances, they moved to Brooklyn when Alice was just 3 years old. Growing up in a wealthy family, she had a trouble-free childhood and high school life. However, influenced by a group of friends she met in high school, she eventually became a delinquent.
Alice, who used to spend her nights drinking and partying, found herself abandoned by her parents upon high school graduation, forcing her to live on her own. With no clear dreams in mind, she made a living working as a waiter at a bar and receiving financial support from her parents.
Alice had no trouble attracting men, due to her stunning looks. Yet, she could never find a love that pierced beyond the surface; one that cherished her for who she truly was within. Men were always only fixated on her looks or looking for a fling. She would often tell herself, “No one truly loves me anyway.” While she may seem calm and collected on the surface, once alone at home, loneliness would often overwhelm her, leading her to cry herself to sleep. Her frequent appearances at clubs and bars were always in search of something more.
One day, her friend Walter brought along his childhood friend Bob to her usual bar. While Alice was waiting for Walter on her own, a man who appeared to be seeking amusement approached her and caused trouble, but Bob effortlessly intervened with a few calm words. Alice was captivated by Bob’s unique and distinctive appearance, which was unlike anyone she had ever seen before, filling her heart with a newfound hope of genuine love.

An avid gamer and a man of few words but when he chooses to speak, his words resonate with logic. Born in Brooklyn, he lost his parents at an early age, leaving him in the care of distant relatives who felt Bob’s presence was only a nuisance.
From a young age, he set out to do things on his own. Even in his school years, he was a shadowy figure, a solitary soul without companions. The one exception was Walter, a neighbor and kindred spirit, who stood in stark contrast with his own reserved nature. Initially annoyed by Walter, Bob gradually opened up his heart and they became friends.
Their paths diverged in high school, leaving Bob alone again. Without any friends to play with, Bob immersed himself into the virtual world, studying games and virtual spaces with an insatiable curiosity. This passion eventually caught the attention of a renowned IT firm, which recruited him for an engineering role. A position that would beckon him from the confines of his computer screen and push him into the real world.
One day, as Bob was making his way home, he encountered Walter whom he hadn’t seen in a while. Walter insisted on getting Bob out of the house and he ended up taking Bob out to his first experience at a bar.
It was at this bar that an unpleasant scene would suddenly unfold. Bob saw a clearly unsavory man disturbing a woman, who turned out to be Walter’s friend Alice, and drove the man away in a calm demeanor without a fuss. In doing so, he captured the admiration of Alice.
Bob often thinks to himself, “humans are creatures who ultimately live alone”. His lack of experience in receiving affection from others left him confused by Alice’s peculiar approach. Nonetheless, her warmth and kindness help lead Bob into the unfamiliar territory of human connection.

Despite his professional independence, he shares a close bond with Bob, whom he met through work, although Bob doesn’t feel as strongly. Whenever they have free time, he likes to appear before Bob and engage in playful banter.

Alice’s father. A distinguished old man with silver hair.
Before Alice became an adult, he was a high ranking bureaucrat, working for the government . However, his desire for worldly recognition of his abilities lead him to take on the role as the boss of a secret organization.

He did not keep contact with Alice after leaving home, leaving her formative years to be monitored by his henchmen.
That was until he learnt about Alice’s involvement in the recent worldwide events beginning to take place. Then, he reveals himself before her for the first time in several years.

A man of few words, pretty boy and hacker. Sits with bad posture.
Only ever opens up his true self to Frank.
Starting at the computer screen all day and being completely engrossed in his work, he forgets to eat or sleep sometimes. To say he lives an unhealthy lifestyle is an understatement. With snacks and scribbled memos being scattered all around his desk, Pat always seems to not be in a good mood.
He dislikes his face being seen so he wears a cap all the time. He wears his favorite panda eye mask on his head, ready to take a nap any time, any place.
After being ordered by Frank to spy on Alice, he was touched by her innocence, causing him to slowly begin to regain trust in humanity.
