Marvel Rivals, published by NetEase Games, exploded onto Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on December 6, 2024, blending Marvel superhero chaos with team-based action. Thanks to its roster and mechanics, This free-to-play hit hooked over 40 million players by February 2025. In this Loki guide, we’ll unlock why he’s a top-tier pick — versatile, tricky, and a shot-calling beast. Climb to Lord rank with these communication tricks.

Intro: Setting the Tone

Kick off as Loki with a quick comms intro:

“Hey team, Loki here! I’ll call ‘Big Heals’ — green circles from my clones and me — plus countdowns to push. I’ll make a Runway forward and drop runes running back after dying. Need heals? Stay near clones!”

It’s short and sets you up to lead.

Getting Lord rank on Loki helps people trust you about calling the shots.

Tip 1: Puppet Master: Shot-Calling the Mark

Loki’s a shot-calling king in Marvel Rivals. From the back, you see it all — take charge. Players using this system will freestyle direction like a preacher waving a snake overhead — it’s wild, fun, and effective. Practice enough, and you might land a gig as an auctioneer. I never shut up, like commentators during a big football play. Teammates don’t share your screen — think of unseen players as radio listeners.

You’re calling the Super Bowl for the blind, narrating War of the Worlds to kids in high socks by a fireplace. You’re Loki, the shot-caller, painting the chaos with your voice.

Loki’s ability set. His main attack “Mystical Missile” heals and damages with splash damage. (Aim for the feet on friendlies to ensure more accurate heals.)

Your wand heals by hitting friendly players and damages enemies with splash damage; Big Heals take 25 seconds to reset. Use those 5-second green circles to hit the “Mark.” Ping, call the spot, then name if time allows: “Focus the Mark on cart!” Ditch “focus” — “Mark, Commit, and even Delete” lands better. Six guns make any character on the roster go boom in one Mississippi. You’ll find the words that work best for you, but these are good ones.

Tip 2: Big Heals & Clones: Healing Callouts

“Big Heals” keeps it clear — call it when dropping green circles; newbies get it and group up. Call them “Clones” for clarity — the team only needs Big Heals’ spots, not clone locations.

After dying, say, “Loki down, dropping heals while running back” — clones can keep healing by dropping runes or firing if teammates stay close. Simple tips make Loki a team anchor if you let your team know what you’re doing and when.

Tip 3: Countdowns: Timing the Push

Sync with “Countdowns”: “Big Heals in 3, 2, 1 — go!” signals the move-in. Perfect for a Runway. You’ll get sniped at “1” sometimes — say, “Loki down, dropping heals upon return,” unless a flank’s location is worth calling out as you watch your death replay.

You can also give updates on how long until Big Heals, such as “Big Heals are down for 15, so play conservatively (or “be chill” works if you’re dealing with broccoli heads).

If your team is sweating while you’re Big Heals are at 6 seconds, let them know “Big Heals on cart in 6 seconds, STACK ON POINT! 3… 2… 1…” and after you keep your team alive, make sure they do something with it! Immediately call a mark no matter how big or well healed.

Make sure to communicate with your teammates, especially your tank. For example, saying something like, “Little heals coming to Hulk in 5” as you approach lets the player know you’re supporting them and that help is on the way — to not back down.

You’ll quickly notice that your tanks will become braver in the game when they hear a reassuring voice behind them saying, “I got you.”

Tip 4: Runway: Green Means Go

Line clones into a “Runway” to push. Call, “Runway in 3, 2, 1,” syncing the team. I learned the power of synching from an Elder Scrolls Online gank squad. Even without using comms— green screams “go,” and teammates follow.

A line of clones dropping runes to create a runway.

Tip 5: Blondie: Target Healers

Short on time? Call “Blondie” for blonde healers like Invisible Woman or Cloak and Dagger — popular picks, not always pure “healers,” but key support. “Blondie” cuts deep for these threats. “Focus Blondie!” triggers quick firepower to pop them. You can come up with other nicknames for characters with long or forgettable names. Psylocke is constantly Ninja Girl to me. Such a generic and forgettable character.

Tip 6: The Problem You Should Respect

Spot their meta star? Mark them and say, “Respect Mr. Fantastic. See him, commit — drop everything and shoot.” “Commit” demands focus; “focus fire” gets ignored in the chaos.

Sometimes I say “love” instead — “Everyone needs to love JEFF right now” gets a laugh but drives it home. Later, in a chaotic scene, yell, “EVERYONE find someone to LOVE right now! All on point. Don’t you want somebody to love? LOVE THE THING!” It’s comical yet effective.

For elusive flankers like Scarlet Witch who’ll return, say, “SEEK Scarlet Witch.” It’s a heads-up — a marked focus order’s coming. It’s the difference between a tornado warning and a watch — prepare, don’t panic. She’s meta with her chaos blasts; SEEK shuts her down fast.

Tip 7: Call Order: Precision Like Starbucks

Call orders like Starbucks: size, flavor, type — like venti caramel macchiato or tall vanilla latte — location first, then who, and then remaining health or any extra tidbit after if time permits.

If jumped, say something like, “Top back right Scarlet Witch. Backline hit!” Phrases like “Wolverine’s in our backyard” click fast. Use the cart as a clock: “Venom on cart 12 o’clock” or “Venom escaped 3 o’clock.” Say once, “Times are cart-based,” and they get it. It’s all about clarity and speed. Be as descriptive as possible with as few words as possible while always trying to keep calm.

If you flip out, people feed off your energy, and it’s that much worse when you’ve been the established leader for the game thus far.

Tip 8: Power of the Ping

Pings beat words — show who and where instantly. Hero names alone are noise. Comms should be reserved for the shot caller most of the time, ask people to just ping for heals or when marking. This leaves more comm space for the main caller to do his or her thing.

Good randoms prefer one shot-caller, but pick a backup: “Dropping Big Heals running back — someone please call focus ’til I’m there.” “Please” keeps it friendly, like, “Hulk, please fall back, I’m healing you.” Screaming “I need healing!” stresses healers with no direction — say, “Ping with down D-pad, left on wheel — it tells me where.” No chaos — just pings.

Go into settings to get extra useful ping options on your wheel. They make a big difference.

If you have not done so, every player should go into the options and set the communication ping wheel to allow 8 slots instead of 4.

This gives you access to even more specific ping calls for when you don’t feel like or have given up on calling over comms. You will instantly have pings like “Group Up” or “I need help” added to your wheel.

Tip 9: Handling Tilt (Suffer no fools)

Teammates venting — grunts, sighs, swearing, or blaming — tank morale fast. Say, “Live in the now — focus on what’s happening, not the 20/20 hindsight. We know you’re pissed; drop the tilt and get back in so we can win.”

Others don’t care about calls, showing it with noisy mics from the lobby screen — too sensitive, speakers blaring, or chaotic households with zero etiquette. Some just want a fight, ignoring direction because they hate authority — their baggage, not yours. Mute them fast.

They might mock or talk over you, but you won’t hear it, and teammates who want to win will value your calls. Keep Big Heals flowing: “Find green circles — I’m on cart and tank.”

It’s Communication and the right lingo, the Loki Lingo.

This Loki guide is about comms, not just play. Nail these 9 shot-calling tips — or find a silent, listening team — and you’ll hit Lord rank fast. I’m hooked, always picking Loki to master him. Unleash Loki’s chaos and rule ranked — start calling shots today! Share tips on Marvel Rivals Discord.
