How to make a phone call in Korean?

Hello? (when picking up the phone) =

I’m sorry. You are? *very polite*

You have the wrong number. =

Since we don’t know the other person, we have to use the subject honorifics We can also choose to use the formal or polite speech form.

Could you repeat that please? =

When hanging up the phone…

Normally, Koreans do not say “goodbye”. Instead, they say 네~ (polite style) or 응~ (informal) with a longer sound to signal the other person that they are going to hang up soon.

I’ll hang up.

If you are on the phone with an elder, end with 안녕히 계세요 or 들어가세요 as these two expressions are more polite.
