Bits for the Weekend is a bi-weekly roundup of links we’re sharing and discussing in the office. Keep up with the daily buzz and follow us on Twitter.

We’re bringing interesting, funny, and slightly geeky articles from all corners of the internet! You’ll get to watch cyber attacks in real time, discover what your selfie sounds like, and learn how the washing machine interface could be made more user friendly. So just grab a cuppa and dig in!

Cyberwar, Visualised

Turns out there is a map showing cyber attacks happening all around the world in real time. Even though a displeasing topic, the map itself is quite captivating to watch.

Vojta: Anyone know why this re-surfaced with such a bang? It’s made it rounds a few years back, but now it’s featured everywhere…
Vojta: BTW don’t know how long it will last, but right now, St Louis looks pretty f#*ked :)
Vojta: Srsly, what’s there? :D

Washing Machine for Men

Clothes washing seems to be quite the topic, especially when designers take it upon themselves to simplify the whole washing machine interface.

Mirka: That reminded me of Aral Balkan’s “Superheroes & Villains in Design” talk a lot. He talks of the difficulties of using a washing machine as well, and re-thinks the whole process. The washing machine part starts at 32:40, but the whole talk is well worth a look ;)

Doge Mask

We all know the horse masks that have been making rounds on and off the internet. But did you know there’s also doge mask? Well..

Vojta: 1) Post on blog links; 2) Buy; 3) Wear; 4) ????????; 5) PROFIT!
Mirka: New mandatory office attire?
Vojta: Without a doubt!

Dynamic Layout in Sketch

A preeety cool and nifty (though still WIP) plugin for Sketch, allowing for dynamic layouting and managing layers through CSS straight from Sketch. (GitHub repo) — Mirka

Bedside Lamp for Your Phone

Super sweet picnic / camping prop, that turns your camera flash into a small lamp. — Vojta

Music Selfie

This website will create a song based on your selfie. — Mirka

Japan’s First Fully Robotized Hotel

So there’s a hotel in Japan with robotic staff. And I kinda want to get checked in by a dinosaur..— Mirka

Mod Notebooks

Notebooks that “go digital” once filled (= sent to the company to be scanned). What a weird, but somehow lovely, combination of IRL and cloud… — Vojta

What other appliances do you think could use an interface upgrade? How would you like to spend a night in a hotel without any human staff whatsoever? Shoot us a tweet @Sleighdogs!

Any articles, resources, or sites you particularly liked in this week’s Bits for the Weekend? Help spread the word by recommending this article ;)
