Pizza Bagels
serves 1 person
20 minutes cooking time
They used to sell pizza bagels at my secondary school and when I stopped going there, I was left craving these pizza bagels. So one day I went into my kitchen, recreated it and made it even better. It is such an easy recipe and much cheaper than ordering a pizza. I always make margherita — oozing with cheese and sprinkled with some fiery chilli flakes — but you can change it up in any way that you want. Have some leftover chicken? Shred it on top. Like a pineapple and ham pizza? Be my guest. Even some sweetcorn and peppers will create a healthy twist. The possibilities are endless. And you don’t have to stick to bagels, I have used sliced bread and French baguettes before.
Ingredients:
□ 1 bagel, sliced
□ 1tbsp tomato puree
□ ½ tsp mixed herbs
□ ½ tsp onion powder
□ 100g cheese, grated
□ ½ tsp chilli flakes
□ Any toppings you want
Cost of ingredients: £5.70 from Sainsbury’s — approximately £1.42 per serving
Method:
1. Pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees.
2. Slice your bagel and divide the tablespoon of tomato puree evenly between the two slices. Spread this on with a knife like you would with butter.
3. Sprinkle half of your onion powder on the tomato puree slices along with half of your mixed herbs.
4. Then sprinkle on your grated cheese and add on the remaining onion powder and mixed herbs. Add the chilli flakes and any other toppings of your choice.
5. Slide the bagels into the oven and leave to bake for 10–15 minutes and it should be bubbling with melted cheesy goodness when it’s done. All you have to do now is dig in.
