With move-out dates looming, here are a few options for what to do with those things you don’t want to throw out but don’t want to keep. Plus, you can feel good about donating to a charity of your choice.

If you live on campus…

Look for the red bins around campus. You can put your things in here and the university will donate them on your behalf. According to a university employee, your donations go to the British Heart Foundation (BHF). If you can’t find a donation bin on campus, but still want to donate to the British Heart Foundation (BHF), visit their website. You can arrange for free donation bags to be sent to you and then collected, so you don’t even have to leave campus. If you prefer, you can drop the donations off yourself at the nearest BHF charity shop, located on Putney High Street.

Visit the BHF website to find out what donations they’ll accept and where the nearest charity shop to you is located: https://www.bhf.org.uk/

You may not want to drag several bags of items onto public transport, but you may not be able to wait for a collection. The nearest charity shop to the university campus is located on Roehampton High Street, just off Roehampton Lane. This is the Cancer Prevention Research Trust Charity Shop. A quick walk or bus ride from anywhere in the Roehampton area will get you there. This charity shop will accept anything from clothes to appliances. This is the trust’s only charity shop in London, so if you want to donate to a good cause, do so before leaving Roehampton.

You can find out more about the Cancer Prevention Research Trust online at https://www.cancerpreventionresearch.co.uk/.

If you can’t be bothered…

iCollectClothes is a free donation service that will pick up any donations from your home for free and donate the proceeds to your selected charity. They partner with Heart UK — The Cholesterol Charity, Do Not Delay! — Breast Cancer Prevention Project, Mercy Ships, Colostomy UK, Troop Aid, and Remus Horse Sanctuary. If you don’t have a preference, you can select no preference and the proceeds will be divided evenly between them all. Don’t be fooled by the name. iCollectClothes also accepts linens, accessories, books, and more.
