Bop, the drunken school disco that it is, is Roehampton’s Friday night out and one of those things where it’s so bad it’s good. The Snakebite is the drink to drink, the ‘Bop burger’ is the classic drunken meal once the doors are closed and there’s a different theme every week where one can don fancy dress, if they so wish. But some are better than others.

Here are the best five Bops of the year — you can miss some Bop’s and not miss out at all but these five are the biggest, most entertaining of the bunch that cannot be missed.

5) Beach

This Bop signals the start of summer and comes toward the end of the year. It’s an easy one to dress up for with Hawaiian shirts and slides galore, and everyone is in a summery, good mood.

4) St Patricks

This is one of heavier Bops, with St Patricks Bop offering deals on a lot of drinks — mostly Guiness, naturally. A packed and very merry Monte Hall looks like 50 shades of green at it’s fullest.

3) Disney

This is one of the few themes which most people dress up for — be it Disney classics, Star Wars or Marvel characters or some generic prince or princess. It’s chance for potentially homesick students to throw back to their child and create some new, messy memories with some of their most beloved kids characters.

2) Last Bop

You should always, always attend Last Bop. It’s not a theme, really, (no one dresses up) but it’s the last Bop of the year and it’s a chance to say goodbye to Roehampton in the most Roehampton-y way — a drunken bop. Drinking game: take a drink for every crying third year facing their, truly, LAST Bop.

1) Halloween

Without a doubt, the best Bop of the year. It’s one of the few Bops where you have to buy a ticket a week in advance as it sells out so fast. And literally everyone dresses up. Granted, it ranges from half-arsed ripped t-shirts and zombie make-up to dedicated, homemade costumes like a living doll, Jaime Lannister, a weeping angel, the Joker and more. Oh, and a gazillion Harley Quinns. Everyone dresses up, everyone has a smashing time.
