Aimed at all design lovers, we’ve decided to dedicate our first post of the year to 2019 design trends.

As always, the turn of the year means change.

And change signals the emergence of new creative ideas materialised in trends, which may or may not be seen in the work to be developed in the coming year.

2018 was a year marked by strong and exciting creations regarding graphic, web and editorial design, among others.

But we’re in 2019 now. Following the previous year, 2019 seems to also show an enthusiastic stance regarding trends on the horizon. Let’s take a look.

The Top 10 2019 Design Trends:

1. Bright, Vivid Colours

A visual full of strong, vibrant colours and gradients that catch the eye is one of the ongoing trends that arose last year.

Unlike neutral and pastel tones, when used moderately, these colours attract the audience’s attention in a quicker way. Such is due to their brightness and intensity.

2. 3D

3D is a trend that has proven to be quite stable and persistent in recent years. 2019 will not be an exception.

Its ability to create pieces alluding to the real world and others that transport us to alternate and future universes is an exciting thing.

3D typography is one of the main elements designers will use this year.

3. Anti-gravity: Floating Elements

The era of flying elements has definitely come to the design field.

Elements that move and behave as if they were in a free environment with zero gravity are trending.

This emerging trend, which is in line with 3D, can be seen in packaging design, and makes products look as if they came from a different world.

4. Flexible Logos

For some time now, logos have ceased to be static elements and have gotten modernised, using greater flexibility.

Logos that easily adapt to any format and to different compositions are a trend we should keep following this year.

5. Typography

Typography plays an increasingly leading role in the design world.

Websites, printed materials and packaging will use bold type, large-sized and different textured fonts more prominently in 2019.

6. Motion and Animation

GIFs are now communication elements that are perfectly integrated in the digital age.

Alongside animated images, these elements, which are used in advertisements, emails, illustrations, icons and even logos are now a rising trend.

Their success is due to the contrast between stillness and dynamic and engaging movement, which easily attracts the public’s attention.

7. Gradients and Duotone

The gradient and duotone techniques have been gaining prominence in the design world. Regarding duotone, it’s possible to elevate the monochrome process from three to four colours now.

Gradients have been adapting and are now associated not only with interfaces, but also with illustrations and logos.

8. Illustrated Icons

Illustrated icons have been trending for some time, and brands are increasingly investing in this technique.

The way icons are easily perceived and the simple way they attract the public’s attention are the reason they effectively improve communication.

9. Alternative Art: Strokes, Smears and Scribbles

Not abandoning classic illustrations, alternative art and graphic design emerge as a new way of highlighting pieces.

Freestyle compositions, chaotic strokes, selected colour smears and modern scribbles pull illustrations out of the comfort zone and raise them to a level of higher impact.

This trend is already taking shape in packaging design.

10. Realism and Flat Design Elements

Combining real-life objects with flat visual elements is a trend for the graphic design setting in 2019.

Often seen in website, packaging and editorial design, among others, this technique uses simplified elements and illustrations.

Creativity, tool proficiency and out-of-the-box thinking are the key to this trend’s success.

These are some creative elements you may see this year. This was a short summary of the 2019 Design Trends.

Now that you’ve taken a peek at some of the graphic design trends for 2019, it’s time to move from paper to reality, and we’re here to help you with that!
