Self-Reflection in the Black Mirror: The Mobile Diaries

They say Rome wasn’t built in a day, but, how long does it take to build Tempo for mobile? As it turns out, longer than we expected. Much longer, actually. Being a really small team with huge ambitions, we came to a bitter realization: we heavily underestimated what it means to build a great mobile app. And, we’re still not quite there yet.

For the past months, our users have asked with excitement, “When is mobile coming?”, “Can’t wait for iOS!”, “Is mobile out yet?”. Fuelled by their enthusiasm, we’ve been relentlessly developing Tempo for mobile. But, we had to pause for a sec and ask ourselves “can mobile reflect the aspiration we have for Tempo desktop,” and, as it turns out, it can’t for now.

We believe in shipping early, but also know that a lot of you will invest your time into giving us feedback and guidance, and we want to respect your time. We don’t want to put something out that we’re not 100% proud of, knowing that it could be so much better. So, it’s been put on hold.

Looking To the Future

We’ve learned a lot over the past few months, and going forward, we’re motivated to do things better, and, importantly, more excited than ever for what’s to come.

We’ve recently hired two amazing developers, who will help us to finally make some huge steps forward. We have some bigger improvements for the desktop app in store, which are scheduled to be realized by the end of summer.

Find Us a Mobile Dev; Get Tempo Free for Life

Honestly, we want mobile to be out ASAP. However, we admit that we need help! If you know of anyone that’s looking for a new opportunity and might be interested in joining us in developing Tempo for mobile, let us know. Whoever refers us to the successful candidate will get Tempo free for life.

We’re on the lookout for a fully dedicated React-Native and/or Swift developer to help us get it to the level we want it. Full-time or freelance, on location, or remote. Someone who has built multiple reliable and snappy apps that are running in production.

Does that sound like you or anyone you know? Send an email to onno@yourtempo.co

More coming very soon.

Opinions, updates, and insights from the Tempo team. Tempo is an app, but we’re also people. This is not a sales pitch.
