Why I’m Using Slinger as My Video Portfolio

It’s not just another app amongst the many.

I’m sure we all know the various pros and cons of social media. And I’m also sure we are aware of how easy our lives have become thanks to social media — not only our personal lives, but our professional lives, too. Our world is developing 24/7. The ability to market ourselves and our work is now possible in a way that it wasn’t a few short years ago. Time after time, what we were once convinced was impossible, technology has proven possible. We have gone from good to better, from a lack of knowledge to expertise, and from obstacle to solution.

YouTube launched in 2005 and grew into the first popular platform for videos, short films and vlogs where the focus is on content rather than your channel’s appearance. For many years, YouTube has been a great tool for hosting horizontal videos, both homemade and professional.

Five years later, Instagram was introduced and we creatives discovered its potential to be the perfect platform for our photography portfolio. It’s the best way to quickly and effectively post your best shots and, thanks to special tailored filters, we can create the image of ourselves we want to convey to the world.

Furthermore, ever since the introduction of Snapchat — where we can play with angles, filters and artistic drawings, creating our own stories and posting them for our followers to see — we’ve started to view vertical videos as something more than the result of rapidly taking our phones out of our pockets to capture a moment. The fact that the vertical format is beginning to emerge as a category in competitions and film festivals all over the world is a definite sign that vertical is becoming the new black. However, for far too long, we have lacked a vertical video platform to display our collections of vertical art.

Until recently.

As Slinger launched at the beginning of 2016 and has been constantly expanding with new vertical videos, we now have access to the perfect mix between our favourite social media channels— and also the perfect platform to create awesome video portfolios. Why? Because as with a classic portfolio, where your best work is selected and gathered on one single platform, Slinger creates an easy-to-follow stream of your vertical work. However, I believe there is more to it. Since we are putting our work online, it’s absolutely necessary to choose a platform where the public’s attention is focused. Slinger is growing and quickly becoming the app to post and share your content right now, as people are still starting to discover its benefits. Creating new content that attracts attention on Slinger is how we can grow an audience and encourage interactions with our work.

You don’t need to be a professional artist, videographer or actor; all you need is inspiration to create and a place to publish your content. I’m sure this year will be a memorable one in the social media world. And this time, the all-in-one app that the social media-savvy will be buzzing about is Slinger.
