Shallow Waters

I long for love that runs as infinite as the oceans' depth,
Off the end that has no bottom,
Fearless and forever,
A seemingly shallow pool that reflects the shadows that dance upon the surface,
Stepping off slowly into the unknown,
So superficial you may drown in its abyss,
As steady as the clock that ebbs the tide,
As calming as the weighted waves of the unshakeable ripple of change,
One that tastes as salty as the tears that remain after they evaporate in the sun,
A love that remains on the footsteps as it tramples through the sand that follows the imprint left behind,
So immense that once its name has been carved,
It lingers still even after the rise and fall of the uncharted waters,
So unwashable, so clean, so perfectly written in the grains embedded in the hourglass of my mind,
As anchored as a sailboat on a sea of unwinded water on a day full of bitter breezes,
Drowning all the doubt dwindling down the drain, hidden in the reef beneath my feet,
That allows my heart to be the lifeguard that saves myself from divulging in the asphyxiation that submerges my lungs,
As they fill with my own tears, robbing them of the air they are willing to replenish me with,
Suffusing and satisfying my need to feel,
To sit on the shore and love me still while I save myself and swim to the bank,
One willing to cross the wall of the “damn”,
To build a…
