A peddler on his knees,
As you hurry to your car,
Your boss awaits you,
Begs for change,
You could spare,
Scoffing in disgust,
You tossed your trash beside him,
Dirty vagrant,
Threw his life away,
Abandoning his family,
To chase the dragon,
Deserving he is not,
Of your time or money,
Atop your high-horse,
You chase greenbacks,
Pushing time aside,
Your son can wait,
Baseball can be played,
At any will,
Time is of plenty.
Day by day,
Your route unchanged,
Life racing by,
Satan advertising,
Your eye catches,
A great salesman is he,
Lends a hand,
Granting your wishes,
Like a bottled genie,
Promising,
More days and hours,
Speed and focus,
Beauty and fame,
Stress no longer,
First one is on the house,
You grasp at the thought,
Life is great,
Money is of plenty,
Days grow longer,
Time spent sleeping,
Is all but a dream,
Baseball with Jr. can wait,
I’ll always have later,
Chasing paper,
Consumes you,
Days race by,
Years have even gone,
In a flash,
You glimpse by the mirror's face,
A stranger stares back,
Desperately seeking,
The salesman,
You need another fix,
One just isn’t enough anymore,
My time just begins,
To wear far thinner than before,
Find him you do,
Begging for a discount,
Your pockets lacking coin,
You return to an empty house,
Finding a note,
