5 tips to make the most out of Ship by Product Hunt
We’ve been featured on Upcoming PH for the past three weeks. Upcoming Pages is part of Product Hunt’s new product: Ship. Here we share our experience along with some best practices to help you make the most out of PH’s awesome new service!
Tip #1: Know what you want to get out of Ship ⛵️
There’s not one way to make use of Ship so make sure you have a clear idea of why you want your product to get featured.
For us, it was to gather a list of potential leads to contact the day we launch on PH and beyond. We made Ship a part of our pre-launch campaign and scheduled it to coincide with the opening of our waitlist to test Slite.
For others, it might be the right platform to find potential beta testers — it’s all about knowing what you want to get out of Ship.
Tip #2: Spend time on branding and wording 🖌
It’s super easy to set up your product’s page on Upcoming Pages but you have minimal space and time to get your message and branding across. There’s also a continuous amount of products getting featured — you won’t stay on top of that list forever.
So how do you create a page that stands out in a list of other exciting products?
- Make sure your tagline tells your subscribers exactly what you do (ie. “THE note app for teams”).
- You can briefly get into the why in the product description but keep it brief and personal, PH is a community above all.
- Edit the background and color of your page with the branding you’ll be using when you launch.
Tip #3: Make a maximum of noise 📢
Even the earliest adopters won’t just find your product: you need to communicate about being featured to get a maximum of interesting subscribers.
Start making some noise via social media & Slack groups. Get your team and their network to share your Upcoming page and kickstart the subscription signup count. Boost your chances by posting to relevant Facebook Startup groups about what you’re building.
Bonus attention points if you get Product Hunt to kindly retweet your team’s posts about being featured!
Tip #4: Import your existing email lists 📩
Product Hunt lets you import existing email lists of potential leads interested in your product, onto your page. As soon as we got featured, we imported our existing list, which gave us a head start on our subscriber count and helped us stand out from the other listed pages.
Importing your lists onto Product Hunt is also a good way to centralize all the people you want to reach out to on D-Day.
Tip #5: Just go for it! 😎
Overall, Ship is a great way to get your foot in the door, test the waters and generate traction before your product’s completely ready to launch. At Slite, it’s helped us start making some noise and gather almost 900 subscribers.
Congrats Ryan Hoover and Nick Abouzeid for this incredible product!
You’re proving once again that PH provides one of the most qualified communities and platforms for product launches. Way to go to the entire Product Hunt team 👏😻
We can’t wait to officially ship Slite on PH and to the general public — stay tuned! 🚀
