What do sunsets, the Borneo jungle and a safari all have in common? Well, one thing is for certain, they were all themes for the big winners in this year’s Chelsea in Bloom competition.

The annual event has transformed the streets of Chelsea, bringing a taste of the animal kingdom to SW1 with this year’s theme, Floral Safari.

Local retailers, restaurants and hotels competed with grand floral displays to be crowned the winner of Best Display, The People’s Champion Award or Innovation Award.

“Every single year, different retailers take part and it’s essentially a competition to kind of kit out the retailers of Chelsea with the best floral displays,” said Kate Mendez from Red PR. “Each display has been commissioned by a certain florist or by the retailer themselves, and they work together hand in hand to bring their creations to life.”

The big winner for 2017 was Hackett. The menswear retailer won Best Floral Display with its exploration themed window featuring 3D life size animals with a leopard perched above the entrance. Tom Davis Opticians won the Innovation Award with its recreation of a sunset on the savannah, while fashion retailer Club Monaco captured the intensity of the Borneo jungle in its display of monkeys created with moss and ivy, scooping the People’s Champion Award for the store.
