Slyde — Adding Over 1,000 New Users Per Day
Slyde launched publicly less than two months ago and we just eclipsed 1000 new users in one day with close to no advertising and no media coverage.

Slyde is a new privacy focused general social network with the goal to be the primary place where people connect online. For a more detailed explanation, check out this blog post.
With social networks such as Facebook stockpiling most of the worlds online users, it makes it difficult for something new to reach critical mass. A lot of people believe that the only way to achieve any kind of critical mass is to target a niche community. However, we didn’t want Slyde to be just another complimentary network to Facebook. So we decided to directly compete and we think this is why we’re starting to see results.
People don’t like Facebook and they want something new to take its place. When we gave them the option for something different, we had a lot of people jump at the chance to try it out. Users signed up, started looking around and interacting with each other, and became reoccurring users. The way we give people the opportunity to separate their connections seems to really resinate with them and makes them want to invite more people they know to join.
From the beginning, we knew we wanted Slyde to have some kind of customization when it came to people’s individual profiles. We thought users would like the ability to individualize their profiles with colors and music because we kept hearing social media users say they missed MySpace, and missed the different things you could do to personalize your profile and make it more you. To be honest, we missed it too. We assumed that some people would like the customization options and use them, but we have found that the majority of our users actually customize their profile in some kind of way.
Many people have said that being the next general social network and replacing a platform like Facebook isn’t possible. And many, if not all of those people also say they want something to grow and replace Facebook. Slyde has a long way to go, but what we’re doing is working. We’re growing. We’re having 1000's of users sign up every day and more than that, they are coming back nearly every day.
We built Slyde because it was something we wanted to use and we were hoping it would be something other people would want to use too. Turns out we are hitting the right chord.
